OpenShift Advanced Configuration & Troubleshooting
OpenShift-specific hostNetwork, SCC, port-forward, same-node controller+worker labels, and debugging.
OpenShift-specific checks
Use pod description, events, previous container logs, SCC permissions, node labels, and host-network settings to isolate OpenShift-specific failures. Check which role a pod represents before assuming controller and worker networking should be identical.
Port-forward for diagnosis
When host networking is intentionally disabled, a temporary port-forward is useful for validating the controller without changing the wider cluster network.
Reset only when needed
Destructive registry or namespace cleanup belongs at the end of troubleshooting, not the beginning. Capture the failed state first; reset only when you intentionally want a clean deployment test.
Commands
Replace example node, registry, namespace, and endpoint values with the values for the target environment.
oc describe pod -n stratum stratum-stratum-controller-0
oc logs -n stratum stratum-stratum-controller-0 -c stratum --previousoc port-forward -n stratum --address=0.0.0.0 \
svc/stratum-stratum-controller 8443:8443The outcome you should see
The OpenShift-specific failure has been narrowed to a concrete object, event, policy, storage, networking, or host-access condition before anything is reset.
