Prepare the Kubernetes/OpenShift Host
Select a suitable worker node and verify /dev/kvm and /dev/net/tun.
Choose the node deliberately
Select a node that will run the STRATUM controller. Verify /dev/kvm and /dev/net/tun on the host before labeling it; do not discover missing virtualization support after Helm has created the workload.
Prepare OpenShift access
Create the STRATUM project/namespace and service account. On OpenShift, the chart requires the privileges needed for the host/device access requested by the STRATUM workload, so validate the SCC assignment explicitly.
Check persistence
Confirm that the cluster has a usable StorageClass. Controller state is persistent; do not treat the controller pod filesystem as the source of durable STRATUM state.
Commands
Replace example node, registry, namespace, and endpoint values with the values for the target environment.
export NODE=YOUR-WORKER-NODE
oc debug node/$NODE -- chroot /host sh -c '
echo "KVM:"; ls -l /dev/kvm;
echo; echo "TUN:"; ls -l /dev/net/tun
'oc new-project stratum
oc create serviceaccount stratum -n stratum
oc adm policy add-scc-to-user privileged -z stratum -n stratum
oc get storageclassThe outcome you should see
The selected node exposes KVM and TUN, the STRATUM namespace/service account exists, required OpenShift privileges are assigned, and a usable StorageClass is known.
